Google Cloud job postings shot up in Q121, says GlobalData – as M&As move into focus

Google Cloud now accounts for almost a third of job postings put out by Alphabet over the past 15 months, according to new figures from GlobalData.

The analyst firm’s job analytics platform found Google Cloud’s infrastructure and platform capabilities, as well as industry clouds were ‘directed to launch new mergers and acquisitions.’

Ajay Thalluri, business fundamentals analyst at GlobalData, said the company was ‘looking at many more M&As after it acquired many companies in 2020.’ “Alphabet’s hiring trends have continued to be influenced by the growth of Google Cloud throughout 2021 – not just in 2020 when companies increased reliance on cloud computing platforms,” added Thalluri.

One such example, posted earlier this year, was for a partner program launch manager, M&A. The ideal candidate was expected to have a decade’s experience in technology and five years in ‘mergers and acquisitions, program design, product launches, documentation, and/or change management.’

Google Cloud made five acquisitions in 2020. The highlight was Cornerstone Technology, a mainframe specialist, in February for an undisclosed amount. Other buys were mobile app developer AppSheet in January, Stratozone in August, and two key deals in December; big data and analytics provider Dataform, and disaster recovery firm Actifio. No terms were disclosed in each case.

This publication has previously reported on Google Cloud’s hiring expansion for both technology and geography. In January, the company was looking for a blockchain sales manager in China, with the ideal candidate expected to have a decade of experience selling infrastructure software, as well as extensive knowledge of C-suite dealings.

GlobalData also suggested that Google Cloud is looking to further its ambitions in the government sector. This was from global job postings, ranging from head of government and public sector in Israel, to global channel director of public sector in Germany, as well as posts in the US and Singapore.
