Not too much has been released from SAP in regards to the proposed job cuts. In a brief press release, SAP said, “Our goal...

It’s cloudy business as usual for SAP as first quarter figures are revealed

SAP’s first quarter 2014 figures, released last week, revealed that while the tech giant’s cloud subscription numbers were going up, its software revenues continue to stall.

This will come as no surprise to those who have been following events with the German firm, who indirectly prophesised this outcome back in January with the Q413 numbers sheet.

At the time, SAP said in a statement that the ‘fast-growing cloud business along with growth in support revenue will drive a higher proportion of...

Why SAP sees HANA as a driver for business disruption

SAP’s recent user event in Orlando, Florida, organized and co-hosted by WIS Pubs, drew 1,800 attendees, all keen to learn new developments surrounding SAP’s BI and HANA in-memory analytics offerings. The key theme revolved around HANA as a platform for driving business innovation through technology and process disruption – clearly, HANA continues to sit front and center in SAP’s product strategy.

Why SAP believes in the "right mix" of cloud, mobile and on-premise

When SAP announced its fourth quarter financial results last month, the focus from analysts and the media was on one particular aspect.

Never mind a fourth consecutive year of double digit growth, or a 69% increase in full revenue on its HANA platform. Everyone’s eyes turned to the mid-term outlook, and specifically this titbit: the company has revised its target of between €3bn and €3.5bn revenue in cloud, as well as its 35% operating margin target, from 2015 to 2017.

“SAP anticipates...

How SAP is refining its big data strategy

Tony Baer, Principal Analyst, Software – Information Management

Gartner: Nearly half of enterprises in hybrid cloud by 2017

Gartner has been gazing into its crystal ball once again, and now the smoke signals have cleared the message is simple: get going with a hybrid cloud solution, because half of big enterprises are going to be deployed by 2017.

The analyst house puts hybrid cloud where the private cloud was in 2010; plenty of companies wanting to get on board, but the actual uptake remains low.

But it’s not going to be available instantly: Gartner recommends chief execs should consider the cloud because of its agility...

Oracle insists data will move at “ungodly speeds” with in-memory database

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison’s keynote speech at the Oracle OpenWorld event this year had heavy billing.

And rightly so; the software giant was going to announce its in-memory database, and we were going to be told just how far ahead of the competition it was.

Oracle announced two primary products; the in-memory Oracle 12c database, and a new server, the M6-32 Big Memory Machine, which includes 32 TB of memory. Ellison said that, with the new database, data will fly around at “ungodly...

Salesforce.com tops list of Talkin’ Cloud 2013 CSPs

Talkin’ Cloud has come up with its yearly Talkin’ Cloud 100, comprising a century of cloud’s best and brightest players. And, in a fiercely competitive field, it was Salesforce.com who came out on top of this year’s list.

Salesforce beat Amazon into the silver medal position, with Microsoft, Oracle and Google completing the top five.

Admittedly, it says something about the strength of the ecosystem where SAP (6th) didn’t make the top five and Workday (11th) the top 10. Terremark,...
