Red Hat: On bridging between the first wave of cloud and next generation platforms

MWC19 For Red Hat, it may sometimes be easier to list what the company doesn't do rather than what it does. The overall umbrella of 'making open source technologies for the enterprise' can range from containers, to cloud, to 5G. But ultimately, as the company has noted at MWC Barcelona this week, it's all developing into a hybrid universe - and it's a space where their customers and partners feel increasingly comfortable.

This is a message of which regular followers of the company - particularly

The cloud in 2020: Enterprise compatibility with edge computing, containers and serverless

In the future, as we speed down the motorway in our self-driving vehicles, historians will mark the 2010s as the decade of the cloud. Some would argue that the tenets of cloud computing were established in the 1960s, when U.S. government scientist J.C.R. Licklider planned an “intergalactic computer network”. In 2006 the cloud...

Four reasons why your company might not be ready for DevOps just yet

Let’s get one thing straight: I’m a huge fan of DevOps. It has been shown to increase quality, reduce problems, and shorten development cycles. It’s often considered a panacea for large organisations looking to transform their development, production and operational lifecycles. But is it right for every business? Companies that do it successfully can reap the benefits of continuous deployment and testing, but companies that fail get trapped in endless loops...

Understanding Kubernetes today: Misconceptions, challenges and opportunities

Any discussion of Kubernetes is best started with an understanding of why we need Kubernetes. Kubernetes helps us manage containers, which dominate application development now because they enable portability, faster application development, and greater independence for developers. Once we started using containers in great volume, we needed a way to automate the setup, tear down, and management of containers - that's what Kubernetes does.

Why efficient multi-cloud management and DevOps requires transparency

As multi-clouds become the norm, finding and addressing wasteful cloud resources jump to the top of the list of IT concerns. Keeping cloud management simple, timely, and accurate requires a view into your application usage that is clear and comprehensive.

Hybrid clouds give organisations the ability to get the best of both worlds: on-premises for traditional apps and resources they want to keep...

Packet and Wasabi join hands to offer better cloud services than AWS

Cloud and edge computing infrastructure provider Packet, and hot cloud storage firm Wasabi, have joined hands to integrate their respective platforms to offer their customers cloud computing and storage services for less compared to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

David Friend, CEO of Wasabi, said: “Amazon has 100-some-odd cloud services. They do everything, but they don’t do anything particularly well. They’ve got one big integrated environment. But if you want the best content delivery network,...
