The funding round was led by Insight Venture Partners, with eight other firms putting their change in the bowl, including new investors Coatue, Goldman Sachs and Northern Trust. Docker’s last funding round, in September 2014, was $40m...

(c)iStock.com/benoitb

As we’re now full swing into 2015, there is certainly a greater understanding over the potential – and the limitations – of cloud computing. Research from NTT Communications has explored the varying issues and argued there needs to be a smoother migration path from the corporate data centre to the cloud.

Similarly, even though cloud will claim a growing share of IT budgets in coming years, many IT decision makers don’t believe it is living up to its potential.

Interoute CTO Matthew Finnie: Why the conversation needs to change in the cloud arena

(c)iStock.com/4774344sean

Sipping a coffee outside the hubbub of Cloud Expo Europe, Matthew Finnie, chief technical officer at virtual data centre provider Interoute, has something on his mind.

“I think one of the things we’re hoping for is people start to put two and two...

The post, written by Red Hat cloud product strategy general manager Bryan Che, argues VMware’s vSphere and virtualisation technology is not as effective at scaling out cloud apps compared to OpenStack, adding that while you can run both cloud-native and...

IBM launches cloud-based technology Identity Mixer to protect personal data

(c)iStock.com/graffizone

IBM has announced the launch of Identity Mixer, a cloud-based technology which aims to protect personal data by only revealing the bare minimum for transactions, on its BlueMix developer platform.

The release, which has not coincidentally been pegged for Data Privacy Day, uses a cryptographic algorithm to only reveal selected pieces of a user’s information, such as date of birth, home address, and credit card number, to third parties.

An example given of how this service works...
