Alibaba Cloud focuses on Asia Pacific with latest launches – and expands Elasticsearch partnership

It has been another busy week at Alibaba Cloud, with the company’s latest releases focusing on both Asia Pacific and European expansion.

Google and Alibaba focus on Southeast Asia in latest infrastructure expansion

The largest players in cloud computing are looking to Asia for further expansion – Google has announced it is building a new data centre in Singapore, while Alibaba Cloud has announced a second infrastructure zone in Malaysia.

Google’s expansion will take the company up to three data centres in Singapore, taking its overall investment in the country to $850 million. The facilities will also be built in line with Google’s environmental policy;

Alibaba Cloud eyes further EMEA expansion with launch of partner program

Alibaba Cloud’s expansion outside of China and Asia Pacific has been well documented – and now the provider is firming up its commitments with the launch of a new EMEA partner program.

The partner program will aim to look at four key areas; developing digital transformation in targeted vertical industries; supporting the development of talent; advancing technology innovation; and enhancing marketplaces.

AWS leads across all geographies in public cloud – with Alibaba second in APAC

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has total geographic dominance in public cloud – but while Microsoft and Google secure second and third place through most of the globe, Alibaba is a clear second in APAC.

This is the key finding from the latest note by Synergy Research, which focused on Q1 data - although the majority of the figures won’t differ from what many market watchers already recognise.

The rise of Alibaba Cloud, to become a major player in cloud infrastructure, is a fascinating one.

Between 2014 and 2016, Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS) saw the top right box change not one iota. Alibaba posts $700 million quarterly cloud revenues, cites AI in strategic plays

Revenues at Alibaba have soared to $9.8 billion US (£7.2bn) for the company’s most recent quarter – with cloud computing revenues nudging $700 million.

The figures represent another good quarter for the Chinese eCommerce giant, whose cloud push continues to intensify. Cloud revenues, which topped at $699m went up 103% year over year, while total revenues saw a 61% yearly increase.

Alibaba Cloud expands to Turkey with new partnership

Alibaba’s cloud expansion continues: the company has announced an expansion into Turkey alongside E-Glober.

Alibaba Cloud expands European push and previews cloud enterprise network offering

MWC Alibaba’s European cloud push continues, with the Chinese provider announcing a series of products for enterprises on the continent around infrastructure, automation, security and more.
