Remember the heady dot.com days circa 1999? We thought we were reinventing business, forming a New Economy, revolutionizing the essential nature of commerce. In our dreams! By late 2001 the bubble had burst, and what we thought was a new paradigm for business—the World Wide Web—turned out to be little more than a new marketing channel.

As 2012 looms on the horizon, IT executives are struggling with the budgetary process and are trying to find some breathing space in all of the bad news.

The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. This seems to be the common feeling on “Main Street” the world over as both first and third world economies attempt to dig them out of the recent financial meltdown. But, even some of the most cash-strapped small businesses could always count on one thing to help them get their business online: Cheap domain names.

The Clouds usually make for turbulent flights and hamper perspective overall, but in many applications they can provide clarity, ease of operations and a platform for enhanced customer focus and responsiveness. Despite the issues of privacy and data sensitivity the first reports of effectiveness of Cloud networks for Capital Markets are in – and they seem very positive.

A recent article published by CIO.com about the changing role and job requirements of the CIO resonated with us for several reasons. First, the talent pool for the CIO position as ascribed in the article differs a bit from years past. Secondly, the characteristics and requirements for this role are shifting. Lastly, the expectations for the “modern day CIO” have evolved prompting a new paradigm for staffing the position.

“Cloud is not for us.” “We virtualize almost everything so it’s like we already use Cloud.” “Cloud is too expensive.” Etc… So what’s your excuse?
